75% garbage

Yup. It's why I'm glad I've finally learned to finish a sketchbook instead of ripping out pages I didn't like. Spiral-bound notebooks always ended up with maybe five pages left in the end. The first time I had a bound sketchbook where I couldn't tear out pages, I just did one or two drawings and never touched it again until I threw it away in one of my sulky moods. ("Why bother? Everything's awful!") It's been so helpful to force myself to save my work. And it's weird how my opinion changes. Something I loved as I was drawing it, I look back later and cringe at how some important detail is off. But something else I hated at the time (a drawing I would have torn out and thrown away in the past), I find myself going, "Hey, that's actually kinda cool." I'm learning to accept that a sketchbook that is 75% garbage and 20% okay is good and we shouldn't be comparing ourselves to the artists who are only sharing the 5% they love because even good artist have bad days.
