I forgot to include this one in my sketchbook #2 post.

This was for a character-creation challenge with the prompt "Queen of Magma".



I really liked how this turned out but when I took a picture of it, it just didn't seem dark enough to convey what I was going for, so I darkened it digitally and enhanced the magma in the eye.

I like both versions, but the magma glow comes through more clearly in the darker version.

Yeah. I still struggle with going dark enough when I'm working with pencil. I look at it and go, "This needs more contrast," but then when I try to darken it up, I hold back and still don't go dark enough. I think I'm afraid of ruining it. And the glow only stands out against a shadowy image.
